What has Jim Button to do with the AfD and why is racism "unreasonable"??

Holiday reading with the best arguments against racism and xenophobia: Michael Ende's "Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver".

Although it doesn't really belong here: During my trip to Thailand in December 2025, I finally managed to read the book "Jim Button and Luke the Engine Driver" by Michael Ende. It's the imaginative story of the friendship between the somewhat eccentric engine driver Luke and the bright foundling Jim Button. When things get too cramped for both of them in Lummerland, they set off together with the all-terrain, but aging, locomotive Emma on a journey full of adventures.

Racism is "unreasonable"

But that's just the short version of the story. It contains the simplest and at the same time best argument against all forms of racism and xenophobia that I have ever read. It is presented by the seemingly gigantic Mr. Tur Tur and goes like this: "Some people do have certain special characteristics. Mr. Knopf, for example, has black skin. That's just how it is by nature, and there's nothing strange about that, is there? Why shouldn't someone be black? But unfortunately, most people don't think that way. If they are white, for example, then they are convinced that only their color is right, and they object when someone is black. Regrettably, people are often that irrational." Racism is "irrational." Could someone please tell that to the AfD and their sympathizers?
